Welcome to Kindermusik with Suzanne, I am delighted that you have chosen Kindermusik for you and your child, I know we will all have lots of great times ahead and I very much look forward to assisting you both on this musical adventure . The following information will help you and your child to maximise your enjoyment of our classes.
Please be prompt and plan to arrive at least ten minutes before the class officially begins, this allows the children time to settle into their new environment, explore our gathering instruments, and of course it gives everyone a chance to chat and catch up. Of course when you first join us everything is very new, to you both, so don’t expect too much from your child,, it may take several weeks or even a whole half term to get used to the activities, faces and new surroundings. It will help you child enormously if you fully participate in class too, although we all know that just as children have worries about beginning a new class then so do parents. The more you participate, the more your child will too. Take a look on YouTube, there’s a great video link about Kindermusik; explaining that some children will sing, some don’t, some dance, some don’t…the same goes for parents. It’s a lovely clip.
Its great to make friends and chat…feel free to discuss and interact with your fellow Kindermusik-ers during class, except at those quiet times (relaxation time is for us all to enjoy a peaceful moment), after all we are here to enjoy, have fun and encourage friendship. I actively encourage parents to bond with other families, after all it’s a social adventure aswell as a musical one, so I don’t mind chatter during class aslong as its at a manageable level and we can all still concentrate, me included.
All weekday classes have a coffee, cake and chat time before or after class, don’t forget to come along for this as it’s a great time to socialise with the other families.
Movement is encouraged during classes, so please ensure that if you choose to wear socks that they are non-slip, but ideally barefoot is best. It is preferable that parents are also either barefoot or wearing appropriate socks/slipper socks. Ideally when its dancing time we all dance, and when its quiet sit down time we all sit down…however we know that doesn’t always happen. It’s fine if your child wanders, however if they run around madly I would appreciate it if you would encourage your child to join you, as it can quickly disrupt a whole class if we have runners, and these habits are difficult to break.
Unless absolutely necessary then please turn off your mobile phone.
We know that young children are just starting to learn how to interact in a group setting. However, we do ask that you are sensitive not to compromise the safety and enjoyment of others in class. If your child becomes very disruptive for any reason(it happens to us all)please step outside the room allowing a moment or two to calm down, and come back and join us as soon as you are able. Feel free to take time out to feed or soothe at any time during class, especially with very young babies.
Please try to drink/snack before class, then leave all distractions (toys, drinks, snacks etc) out of sight and reach as they are distracting to all children. If for any reason a drink or snack is needed during a class, a little discretion is
appreciated as very quickly a whole class can turn into a picnic.
Kindermusik is most effective when there is one child per caregiver, its always fantastic to have an extra pair of hands so do feel free to bring along company. If your child becomes very disruptive for any reason (don’t worry it happens to us all) please take a moment or two, even step outside the room if you need to for some calm time, and come back to join us as soon as you are able.
Feel free to take time out to feed or soothe at any time during class, especially with very young babies. You may even find that you need to sit quietly and observe the class, which is fine too! Enjoy watching, then have a go at home, using your home pack.
